BEST MOVIES OF 2011: 7. TAKE SHELTER

Michael Shannon owns this movie, about a man who may or may not be sinking deeper into madness.

This was probably my favorite mystery of the year. The movie does a great job creating a looming sense of dread, as we wonder if this character is heading down the same path of his ancestors.

While so many movies had ambiguous endings in 2011, TAKE SHELTER chose to go another route. It's a head scratcher of a conclusion, but after further thought, I think it works. But see this one for the master class in acting.
