Every year, natural disasters affect the country. Some portions of the United States are naturally more susceptible than others. Data provided by the National Weather Service and from the Federal Emergency Management Agency shows the most expensive annual cost per household is Louisiana at $1,805, followed by Mississippi at $1,322. Flooding and wind damage from hurricanes are the major cause. North Dakota is ranked third at $600. The only state in the Northeast in the top 5 is Vermont at number 4 with $276. Connecticut is ranked 49th at $4 per household.
