Our beautiful stretch of mild and sunny weather continues for one more day Saturday with temperatures near 60 degrees. Then get ready for a taste of winter starting Sunday with much colder air and even some snow in parts of the state!

After a bright and mild Saturday, clouds will start moving in late-day. Rain showers will develop around/after midnight. Some of that rain could be briefly heavy between 2 AM and 5 AM Sunday as a strong cold front moves through.

As colder air streams in behind the front, rain showers could change over to snow showers. This is most likely to happen in the Litchfield hills where a quick coating is possible. The rest of the day will be windy and chilly with highs in the 40s and wind chills in the 20s and 30s. A few rain or snow showers are possible but most of the rest of the day will be dry.

Sunday night into Monday snow showers will redevelop and this time more of the state will have the chance to see some flakes fly. The Litchfield Hills could get up to several inches of snow (depending on wind direction and available moisture). For the rest of the state, I can’t rule out a coating in spots. But the big story is the wind and the cold on Monday.

Snow accumulation looks like more of a sure thing for our neighbors to the north from the Berkshires up through the Green Mountains. That’s some nice white gold for our regional ski mountains.

Monday and Tuesday will be so chilly, some towns might not make it out of the 30s.

After a cold start to the week, temperatures will begin to moderate. Luckily, it will be dry for the BIG travel day on Wednesday as folks get ready for Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving could be wet though with showers or areas of rain likely. Some of that wet weather could last into Black Friday too. Right now it seems like just rain but temperatures will be borderline. So it’s worth watching just in case something wintry tries to sneak in.
