A powerful storm system to the west of Connecticut on Monday brought torrential downpours and tropical storm force winds. Power outages during the late afternoon were close to 31,000. Peak wind gusts around the state included: 61 mph in Groton, 56 mph in Meriden, 54 mph in Bridgeport, 53 mph in New Haven, 51 mph in Hartford and Danielson, 49 mph in Willimantic, and 48 mph in Scotland. Rainfall totals through 7 p.m. included: 2.79 inches in West Simsbury, 2.58 inches in Danbury, 2.55 inches in East Hartland, 2.52 inches in Bristol and 2.38 inches in Torrington.
