Mind Booster PSiO 1.1 glasses

Mind Booster PSiO 1.1 glasses (PSiO)

Name: Mind Booster PSiO 1.1

What it is: audio-visual glasses with a built-in MP3 player designed for meditation. The glasses emit sound and colored lights in precise rhythms designed for relaxation or stimulation. PSiO comes with more than 10 programs to help users sleep, boost memory, improve focus, etc. Surprisingly, the sleep program's music and lights are intense to overstimulate the brain and thus reduce brain chatter. Included are two mono earbuds, a recharging cable and a transformer for 110 or 220 volts.

The good: I tested PSiO on several flights, including lengthy three-leg flights to Palau. PSiO was ideal for helping me relax and sleep on long flights. It also energized me and improved my focus when I awoke. As for the shake-your-booty beat of the sleep program, after I danced in my seat for a minute or so, I always drifted off to sleep before the 30-minute program ended. Though the French music keeps me from singing along, I hope PSiO eventually offers a light show to Marvin Gaye or Barry White.

The bad: I wish the glasses came with a 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm adapter for people to use their own headphones. A hardened protective case would make it safer to pack PSiO. Though I carried the glasses in a soft protective bag, a crack developed in the bridge of the glasses on my fourth trip when I squeezed them into a backpack. The glasses were a bit large for my face, so they sometimes slipped off when my seat had limited recline. A smaller size or a head strap would be nice.
