It seems like just about every hotel chain and airline offers a rewards program. But which ones are the most, well, rewarding?

U.S. News & World Report on Wednesday released the results of its annual ranking of loyalty programs providing the best perks for everyday travelers.

Among U.S.-based airlines’ frequent flier programs, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan appears to be in a holding pattern in the top spot, coming in first place for the third year in a row. The distance-based earning structure of Alaska Airlines’ (soon to merge with Virgin America Elevate) helps passengers accumulate miles at a faster pace than revenue-centric programs that factor in the price of the ticket — a downside for budget airfare shoppers.

Delta SkyMiles soared into the No. 2 spot, thanks to competitive redemption rates for reward flights and wide-ranging benefits, like using miles for hotel stays and experiences, as well as cabin upgrades and free flights.

Rounding out the pack, from best to worst: JetBlue TrueBlue, Southwest Rapid Rewards, United MileagePlus, American Airlines AAdvantage, HawaiianMiles, Frontier EarlyReturns and Free Spirit.

On the lodging side, U.S. News checked out 17 loyalty programs associated with major hotel brands that have a minimum of 50 properties in the U.S.

The winner: Marriott Rewards. It scored high marks both for members’ ability to rack up points and Marriott’s robust network of outposts in popular destinations. Other bells and whistles include free Wi-Fi access and the chance to redeem points for booking sporting events, concerts and exclusive chef dinners and cooking classes.

Last year’s winner was Wyndham Rewards, which came in at No. 2 this year, thanks to the plan’s ease for earning a free night, access to reduced room rates and the opportunity to earn points via two affiliated credit cards.

No. 3 is Choice Privileges, followed by World of Hyatt, Best Western Rewards, IHG Rewards Club, La Quinta Returns, Club Carlson, Starwood Preferred Guest, Leaders Club, Hilton Honors, Omni Select Guest, Stash Hotel Rewards, Le Club AccorHotels, Kimpton Karma Rewards, iPrefer Hotel Rewards and Fairmont President’s Club.
