Name: The Green Garmento
What it is: The Green Garmento was created to reduce plastic waste created by plastic bags from the dry cleaners. Made of recyclable, breathable, water-resistant material, the bags feature a zipper for using it as a dry-cleaning bag and a drawstring and a side strap to turn it into a duffel or hamper. For travel, it's great for protecting your dressier clothes at the beginning of a trip. Also on the road, you can use it as a hanging duffel or as a place for dirty clothes.
The good: When I've traveled with it, the Green Garmento has worked well as a combo garment bag, hanging duffel and hamper. I also use it at home for both my dry cleaning and to take my regular dirty clothes down to my building's laundry room.
The bad: You may have to teach your dry cleaner about the bag. I had to persuade mine to accept it (even though she does recycle coat hangers). The first time I used the bag, I took in an evening dress that was longer than the 48-inch blue Green Garmento bag. She refused to return my dress in a bag that was too short, so I wound up with a single-use plastic bag. She later saw the 54-inch Green Garmento bag and said that would have been fine for the evening dress.
Cost: $9.99 for the 40- or 48-inch-long bag; $10.99 for the 54-inch bag and $12 for 72-inch bag.
