Name: SeV (Scottevest) Tropiformer Jacket
What it is: A jacket designed for the tropics, featuring 22 pockets for carrying gadgets, money and more along with removable magnetic sleeves for instant conversion into a vest. Scottevest collaborated with ThinkGeek to design a jacket that makes gadget freaks look cool and feel cool, with breathable, superlight material. Specialty pockets hold glasses, a tablet, cash (in a locking magnetic pocket), etc. A clear plastic pocket enables use of a touch screen phone. The material is water- and stain-repellent, so pocketed electronics stay dry. The collar features Scottevest’s patented Personal Area Network for earphone cables along with a stowable hood. The jacket comes in red, blue, green, gray and “cement.”
The good: This jacket is attractive, comfortable and meets so many travel needs. I love the magnetized removable sleeves, because they can be peeled off easily while hiking. With my iPhone, Canon G10 camera, iPad and backup batteries stowed, I occasionally feel like a walking suitcase, but everything I may want on the plane is at my fingertips. The two-in-one side pockets allow me to stow items in the outer pocket while using the second magnetically closed pocket as a hand-warmer.
The bad: I would like to see dedicated hotel key pocket so the magnets don’t demagnetize hotel key cards.
Cost: $150
