Love at first sip with AUTOSEAL West Loop Travel Mug

Chicago Tribune
Need a travel mug? Here's a real performer

Name: Contigo Autoseal West Loop Travel Mug with Easy-Clean Lid

What it is: A vacuum-insulated stainless steel travel cup that only permits liquids to escape when you press its Autoseal button and sip. The 16-ounce cup includes a lid-lock switch to prevent the Autoseal button from being accidentally pressed if the mug tips over. In Contigo's tests, the mug kept beverages hot for seven hours or cold for 18 hours. The quick-release mechanism in the top makes it easy to clean, and the wide mouth allows it to easily accommodate a SteriPEN for cleaning/sterilizing water from a waterfall or a questionable tap. Available in three sizes and seven colors; I tested a 16-ounce stainless steel model.

The good: This is my favorite refillable bottle, whether I'm exploring the wilderness of Quebec or driving around town. Most refillable bottles seem to leak with a drinking cap screwed on, but this doesn't. And the Autoseal technology only lets liquid out when I press the button. I have been amazed when it doesn't leak when I stow a full cup of ice water in the interior of a backpack. With iced beverages, the cup keeps it cold for most of the day even when sitting in a hot car. And in yoga class, the lid lock prevents any spillage if my Happy Baby pose tips it over.

The bad: A clip would be nice so I could attach a carabiner to carry it with backpacks that lack a water bottle pocket.
