Name: Kinivo BTH240 Bluetooth Headphones

What they are: Wireless headphones that operate via Bluetooth signal from iEverything, smartphones, MP3 players — whatever has Bluetooth capability.

The good: Wonderful quality for a surprisingly low price: about $30 most places. No. 1, these comfortable over-ear phones sound better than any earbud I’ve ever tried, and I much prefer over-ear on a trip in case I get trapped next to loud obnoxiousness that requires earplugs and cover music. Those things in combo can handle any noise I’ve encountered. These will get louder than most people would ever want, and the sound remains crisp, the bass satisfying. (By the way, my iPad Bluetooth can be turned on even though the device itself is in airplane mode.) Volume and track controls are on the right phone, and it even advances my tracks on Pandora. The Bluetooth signal reach was at least 50 feet without architectural encumbrances. These collapsible phones and the charging cord stow away in a sack about half the size of a small potato chip bag. The “on” button also allows you to toggle over to a phone call. They charge quickly, and a full load should give you 10 hours.

The bad: I would worry about how the behind-the-head plastic frame would hold up over time, but I did carry these in a messenger bag for a couple months, and they’re as firm as ever.

Cost: $30.99
