MEElectronics M9P In-Ear Headphones

What it is:

The second-generation M9P In-Ear Headphones are designed for durability and a great dynamic sound that equals other earphones at twice the price. All of MEElectronics headphones cost less than $100, and the M9P retails for $29.99. The M9P features an in-line single-button microphone remote for hands-free calls, pausing music and switching musical tracks. The M9P includes a case, an improved, tangle-resistant cable with low microphonics (to prevent cable noise caused by friction when moving), four sizes of silicone tips and a gold-plated connector to work with iPods, iPhones, most BlackBerrys, MP3 players, laptops and devices that accept a 3.5 mm jack.

The good:

I’m an earphone/earbud snob. And after discovering online that most retailers sell the M9P for less than $18, I was skeptical about these “award-winning” headphones. I expected to hear a tinny, bass-free “yeow” sound instead of the “wow” sound I got. These earphones have a rich bass sound that doesn’t drown out the treble. Phone calls are crisp and clear without mic static. A smaller set of ear tips fit me better and were more comfortable than the double-flange buds that the M9P wears in the box. The cord doesn’t tangle, and I was impressed that the M9P connects with all my devices so I can listen to tunes on my MacBook Pro, iMac, iPhone, iPod or Kindle. They even work with my travel TV.

The bad:

I wish the in-line microphone remote could raise and lower volume. That’s my wish for the next generation.

Cost:

$29.99 list (but most stores sell for less than $18)
