Name: SPLASHSAK DIPPER by LOKSAK
What it is: A durable, waterproof 7-by-6-inch nylon zippered pouch with a waist strap that holds a 6 3/4-by-6-inch waterproof plastic bag that is resealable, good for protecting smartphones. The seal keeps water, air, dust and humidity from permeating the closure. The bags, bearing the brand aLOKSAK, were tested and certified by SSI (Scuba Schools International) as waterproof to 200 feet. The aLOKSAK is flexible, puncture resistant and allows a person to use the touch-screen phone while it’s in the aLOKSAK. The DIPPER comes with two aLOKSAK bags.
The good: The DIPPER offers a convenient pouch for items other than my phone plus a second layer of waterproof protection for my iPhone when I’m in a kayak, on a boat or in the rain. I tested the waterproof seal of the aLOKSAK. After carefully sealing it, I submerged my old iPhone in water in my bathroom sink for more than five minutes, and the bag didn’t let in even a drop. I love being able to use my iPhone while it’s sealed inside the aLOKSAK. I can make calls and listen to music using the speaker phone, and I have full access to my calendar, contacts, email and apps. Most rigid waterproof cases render a smartphone useless as anything other than a music player. If you don’t need a carrying pouch, a three-pack of the aLOKSAKs for smartphones retails for $6.49.
The bad: The aLOKSAK needs to be protected from cats or other chewers. My cat’s teeth punctured a bag that I accidentally left outside the SPLASHSAK after removing my phone.
