Wellness may not be what visitors expect when vacationing in Las Vegas, but that’s what the MGM Grand resort has in mind with its Stay Well rooms.

Working with the Cleveland Clinic, the MGM has developed special amenities that encourage deeper sleep and wellness.

“The Dawn Simulator alarm clock is very popular. Many of our guests coming in from overseas face jet lag and are looking for ways to adjust their internal clock as quickly as possible,” said Travis Lunn, vice president of hotel operations for the MGM Grand.

“The light wakes you up gradually to mimic dawn, but it’s just one of the ways our Stay Well rooms assist with jet lag.”

Other features include a HEPA-filter air purifier for guests with allergies; the bathroom’s Wake-up Light Therapy, which exposes guests to short periods of blue-shaded lighting to increase energy; and the Circadian Dimmable Bedside Lighting, which emits a warm glow LED to enhance sleep, Lunn explained. Guests also are using their post-stay $140 credit with the Cleveland Clinic for online access to its wellness programs.

When I spent two nights in a Stay Well room in January, I loved the room’s lighting, quiet air purifier and the vitamin C-infused shower, which kept my skin moist. Normally I slather on lotion in the dry climate of Las Vegas, but I barely used any during this stay.

Also, the gentle LED night lighting is very soothing, making a nighttime bathroom visit far less jarring.

The MGM Grand started with 42 Stay Well rooms and has since expanded to 171 because of demand.
