Coming to Diagon Alley: Butterbeer ice cream, fishy green ale, other edibles

Did someone say butterbeer ice cream? Visitors to Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter -- Diagon Alley will be able to lick that right up when the attraction opens at Universal Studios theme park this summer.

On Friday, Universal Orlando revealed some of the foodstuffs and beverages that will be available at Diagon Alley restaurants and eateries.

At Leaky Cauldron, expect British fare such as bangers and mash; toad in the hole (sausage baked into a Yorkshire pudding); cottage pie; fisherman's pie; beef, lamb and Guiness stew; split-pea soup; banger pub-style sandwich; fish and chips; and Ploughman's (cheeses, bread, pickles, apple beet salad and a Scotch egg). Its breakfast menu includes apple oatmeal flan and an egg, leek and mushroom pasty.

At Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour, flavors will include Earl Grey and lavender; chocoloate chili, clotted cream, apple crumble, sticky toffee pudding, salted caramel blondie, chocolate and raspberry (just like Harry), strawberry and peanut butter, orange marmalade and the aformentioned butterbeer.

Diagon Alley beverages include fishy green ale, Otter's Fizzy Orange Juice, Tongue Tying Lemon Squash and others.

In an interview with Universal's blog, Ric Florell, senior vice president of revenue operations, discussed the challenge of planning the Leaky Cauldron.

"The tricky part was creating a menu when there was no mention of any of the food items in the books and only one mention in the films to split-pea soup," he says. "So, we devised a menu with delicious dishes you would find in a British pub."

Universal has not yet announced an opening date for Diagon Alley.
