Tucked off a dead end road in east Orange County, just outside the Orlando city limits, Capehart Park is something you’d never stumble upon by happenstance.

The park, one of the 97 parks maintained by Orange County Parks & Recreation, offers a little bit of everything.

Open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the summer and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the winter, Capehart Park, at 715 Capehart Drive, is an unexpected gem within a stone’s throw from State Road 408.

Park visitors will find playful butterfly décor, including wall decorations, benches and sculptures, all around the multipurpose recreation center and open space.

To beat the Florida heat, two jungle gyms, one for children ages 2-5 and another for older children, are shaded. A small splash pad also helps and is open year-round from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There’s picnic tables and public grills that practically beg to be filled with hot dogs and hamburgers for a summer get together.

A multipurpose field is behind the recreation center, which itself houses community ballet lessons, Zumba classes and other afterschool programs for varying prices.
