Just like at many theme-park attractions, you can't leave this column without a trip through the gift shop. Here is some of the new merchandise that Disney World will sell in the coming weeks alongside its stream of pins and Vinylmation figures.
•I liked the plain navy baseball cap with an early Disney World logo — a blockish D with a globe design inside it — embroidered in gold. There's also a Disneyland version with a gothic D, as seen on the old Disneyland sign.
•Other, floppier hats provide built-in protection from the sun from Coppertone.
•A cover for iPad Minis has a subtle design of a certain mouse. It's a no-brainer: Minnie meets Mini.
•Black Ray-Ban sunglasses with two options: Black-and-white Mickey drawings around the eyes or tucked away on the interior where no one else can see.
•An extra-long wall calendar with posters from Star Wars Weekends. The calendar segment can be removed, making the imagery suitable for framing. (The calendar runs from June 2013 through December 2014.)
•For kids: a plastic "Tangled" play set and a Gaston ("Beauty and the Beast") archery set.
•A character autograph book with slots for photos.
•Like it or lump it, Duffy the Disney Bear is entrenched at the parks. I have to admit that one of his separate-purchase costumes made me smile: He can be dressed to look like Sulley from "Monsters, Inc." (and the upcoming film "Monsters University"). There's also a special Disney Cruise Line Duffy. Make your own "Bear overboard!" joke.
