A new male Masai giraffe calf will be joining the Kilimanjaro Safaris savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the next few weeks, but not before the votes are tallied for what his name will be.
Disney has put up a poll on their blog to allow the public to name the newly born calf. The options are: Baraka, which means blessing; Knodo, which means battle; Baridi, which means frost; Shingo, which means long neck; Asani, which means rebellious; and Mosi, which means first since this is the first Masai calf to be born at Animal Kingdom.
Since there are two types of giraffes at Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Masai giraffes and reticulated giraffes – you’ll have to look to the spots to differentiate between the two. Masai giraffes have dark brown, jagged patches on a cream-colored coat whereas reticulated giraffes have orange-brown, strictly defined patches separated by bright white lines.
To help name the newborn calf, visit the Disney blog to cast your vote and be sure to check back on July 31 to see what name wins.
