My favorite thing: The Tiffany Chapel, a hidden gem in Winter Park

Back in college, when I had my heart shattered into pieces, the Tiffany Chapel at the Morse Museum was one of the few places that comforted me.

I would sit on one of the wooden benches in this mystical space and get lost in its magnificent mosaics and colorful windows.

Louis Comfort Tiffany created the chapel in 1893 for the Chicago World’s Fair to exhibit his glass and decorating company.

Since then, and before being rescued by Jeannette and Huge McKean here, the chapel has fallen into ruin several times, but it has somehow survived it all. Most of what’s on display today is what the world’s fair spectators saw in 1893, records show.

So I would sit there, engulfed in this quiet sanctuary, and remind myself that if a million little pieces of glass survived such tumultuous history, then I could survive unrequited love.

And I slowly began to mend my heart.
