My favorite thing: Orlando City fans make the game a worthwhile spectacle

It’s hot. It’s loud. Thousands of purple-clad revelers — I suspect many of them drunk — are alternately cheering, booing and dropping F-bombs when they don’t like a ref’s call.

And, like a maniac, I’m screaming with the rest of them, even though most of the time I’m not completely sure who or what I’m cheering for.

I have become an Orlando City Soccer Club fan. To quote the Talking Heads (the oldsters will know who I’m talking about): “Well … how did I get here?”

I don’t even like sports. But in a family of three, two of whom most decidedly DO like sports, I am outnumbered.

The games are a spectacle, thanks in part to the exuberant fans.

Case in point: During the national anthem, when the performer sings “gave proof through the night,” the crowd — in a nod to UCF — always screams “KNIGHTS!!” with gusto.

It pains my Gator heart to admit that makes me smile.
