Exotic cars, Hollywood vehicles and celebrities come together this week for the annual Celebration Exotic Car Festival.
The four-day event that features a two day trips for participants to spin their pricey four-wheeled toys around Daytona International Speedway has as its highlight for the general public a free display on the waterfront of downtown Celebration.
In its 14th year, vehicular highlights on Saturday include the presence of more than 400 cars including Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Lotus, Aston Martin, Bugatti, Spyker, Saleen, McLaren, Pantera and DeLorean.
The display runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with an awards presentation at 3 p.m. That includes winners driving their cars across a red carpet to get their trophy. Event organizers said previous years have attracted 40,000 people to the free Saturday display.
If you see more Ferraris than normal, it’s because the event is also the Ferrari Club of America’s annual meeting.
Cars with a Hollywood pedigree on hand will include the yellow Happy Days hot rod, the DeLorean from “Back to the Future III,” the Batmobile from the Tim Burton era films, the Lambo from “Cannonball Run,” the Lambo from “Dumber and Dumber,” the car from “Christine,” KITT from “Knight Rider” and the Bluesmobile from “Blues Brothers.”
The event also draws human celebrities including Jay Leno, Paul Teutul Sr. and Mikey Teutul from “American Chopper,” car enthusiast and actor Christopher McDonald of “Happy Gilmore” fame, actor Corey Feldman, actors Donny Most and Anson Williams from “Happy Days,” Cheap Trick frontman Robin Zander, former Journey lead singer Steve Augeri, magician David Magee, Hell’s Kitchen winner Rock Harper, baseball Hall of Famer Johnny Bench and actor Malcolm Danare of “Christine.”
While Saturday’s event is free, and the Thursday and Friday Daytona track days are for participants with cars, there are some events open to the public, although with a cost.
Friday night at Hard Rock Live will be stand-up comedy from Leno and a concert from Zander performing Cheap Trick hits.
After the daytime Concours, there will be a Champagne Taittinger reception and ZD Wine pairing dinner at the Four Seasons Resort at Walt Disney World that also has a concert by Augeri performing Journey hits. Sunday morning, festival participants will take place in road rally to close the event.
All of the net proceeds from the four-day event go to charity. Since 2004, the festival has donated almost $2 million to charities including Make-a-Wish, Special Olympics and Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital.
