PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Threats of tropical weather kept hotel and condo reservations down in the Florida Panhandle over the long holiday weekend.

But those who kept their plans to visit Panama City Beach found discounted rates on their hotel stays.

Panama City Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau spokesman David Demarest says reservations were down over Labor Day due to Hurricane Hermine and the cancellation of the Gulf Coast Jam.

He told the News Herald many hotels were busy Friday trying to convince people who’d cancelled their plans to reschedule.

Talia Sanchez of north Alabama tells the newspaper she decided to visit after seeing Hermine move away from Panama City Beach.

Demarest says the city has a “good lineup of events” heading into what he hopes will be a strong fall season.
