Fishing Derby: The Greater Lantana Chamber of Commerce now has early registration for its 22nd annual Lantana Fishing Derby, a family oriented tournament for kingfish, dolphin and wahoo on May 14 with the weigh-in at the Old Key Lime House restaurant on East Ocean Avenue. First prize is $2,500 for the heaviest overall fish. The heaviest of each species wins $1,250, and there are cash prizes for second and third in each category. A kickoff party is 5:30 p.m. April 1 at Heroes Sports Bar & Grill, 224 N. Third St., Lantana. The captain's meeting and party is 6 p.m. May 12 at the Lantana Recreation Center, 418 S. Dixie Highway. Junior rangers: Kids of all ages can take part in Junior Ranger Day April 2 at the Shark Valley and Royal Palm areas of Everglades National Park. Reefs meeting: Our Florida Reefs has a meeting from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. April 6-7 at Fern Forest Nature Center in Coconut Creek. Community Working Group Members will discuss the feedback received on the Recommended Management Actions, which include marine protected areas and no spearfishing while using scuba gear. Yard sale: The West Palm Beach Fishing Club's annual Marine Yard Sale is 7 a.m. to noon April 16 at the club's headquarters at 201 Fifth Street, West Palm Beach. The event typically features everything from rods, reels, lures, gaffs and landing nets to anchors, dock lines, coolers and dive gear, all of it donated to the club over the past year. There are no commercial vendors. Proceeds benefit the youth education and conservation efforts of the Palm Beach County Fishing Foundation, which is the club's charitable affiliate.
