There's no way we’re letting go of the summer yet. In fact, we fully intend on keeping the season afloat. The best way to do that is by taking things into your own hands – on a Jet Ski, or “WaveRunner” as they are reffered to now.
In Jamestown, R.I., a small outfit called Adventure Watersports offers a chance to take in the scenery and let out some horsepower,
“Jamestown has more access to water than any place in southern New England,” said Norman Kaplan, the longtime owner of Adventure Watersports.
Aboard 2013 model Yamaha VX Sports WaveRunners, visitors venture into the Narragansett Bay at slow pace, then beyond the no wake zone they can throttle up.
“The average person who rents a WaveRunner,” Kaplan quipped, “they want to go as fast as they can or as fast as their girlfriends will permit.”
If you do slow down for a stretch you’ll see sights along the way like Hammersmith Farm – the place where Jackie Kennedy grew up and the summer haunt for JFK in the 1960s. Speeding under the Pell Bridge is another favorite stop.
“It's 197 feet from the top of the bridge to the water,” said Kaplan.
Adventure Eatersports is open every day during the summer season. Depending on weather conditions, visitors can rent a WaveRunner, kayak or boat, sometimes into mid-October. Adventure Watersports is located at 2 East Ferry Wharf in Jamestown, RI. for more information click to go to the Adventure Watersports website.
