The ten mile stretch of the Housatonic River that Clarke customers play in is a mixture of smooth, moving flat water, and spots of moderate white water.
No matter what your vessel, canoe, kayak, or raft, make sure to stop under the famous Covered Bridge in West Cornwall. Here you can choose a lovely picnic spot or step into one of the little luncheonettes along the river.
Canoe trips can either be ten (3.5-4 hours) or six (1.5-2 hours) miles long. Rafting trips also are either ten (4.5-5 hours) or six (2-2.5 hours) miles long.
Canoe rentals are:
A 2-3 hour clinic is also available with an instructor, followed by an afternoon on your own. A clinic is $75 per person, with a two person minimum.
Kayaking can be done through the white-water, or on flat water in the "sit-yaks," which are similar to kayaks, but the passenger sits on top rather than inside.
White-water kayaking is $40 per person, and includes all equipment.
$105 per person/group
$125 per person/semi-private
"Sit-yaks" (1 person): $30
Rafting rentals are:
Adults: $27 weekends / $24 weekdays
Youth (15 years and under): $20 weekends / $17 weekdays
White-water rafting, for the slightly more adventurous, is available April through May, weather dependent.
For $90 per person, all the equipment is included, as are wetsuits and lunch. White-water rafting is recommended for those ages 16 and over.
Bulls Bridge Gorge offers some of the most technically demanding white-water in the East.
