Next time you’re playing tour guide for guests in Chicago, here’s a new app that will tell you such things as the former location of the Wigwam building, where Abraham Lincoln won the 1860 Republican nomination or the strip mall where the Obamas shared their first kiss outside a Baskin-Robbins.

Or, maybe you’d like to show those guests a church still bearing the bullet scars of a Capone gang shootout. There are lots of notable events to choose from.

The app is part of Mobile Surroundings’ “It Happened Here” series, which includes Washington, D.C.; New York; Los Angeles; Boston; San Francisco; and Philadelphia. The apps cost $2.99 each and work for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Each app detects a user’s location, then reveals historical events, memorable movie scenes, etc., that happened nearby.

Find it at the iTunes website.
