Do you want to plan a short, family-friendly jaunt this summer? Consider Milwaukee.
In a statement on its site, Amtrak announced that now through Aug. 28, kids aged 2 to 12 can ride free (with each paying adult) on Amtrak’s Milwaukee-to-Chicago route, the Hiawatha line. Up to two children can ride free, and travel must be on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with blackout days on May 27 and 30, and July 1 and 4.
Earlier this month, Amtrak eased woes for travelers with bikes, allowing them to reserve a space for travel between the two cities, rather than break down their wheels. Reservations cost $5 a bike. The company also began allowing small dogs and cats in carriers onto trains for $25.
The Hiawatha line runs seven times a day each way, clocking in at 90-minutes between both cities. Stops include Milwaukee airport, Sturtevant and Glenview, Ill.
