The Days Inn hotel at the border of Lakeview and Lincoln Park is getting a new look.

In late spring, the nearly 100-year-old building at 644 W. Diversey Parkway will become Hotel Versey, a “lifestyle” hotel.

Hotel Versey will be “a boutique hotel that embraces its history and caters to fun-loving locals and travelers looking for a modern lifestyle hotel,” according to a press release issued by Chicago-based Oxford Hotels & Resorts, the company that manages the property.

The name is a nod to the property’s original namesake (The Diversey Arms) and ties into the hotel’s V-shaped structure on its triangular city block at the corner of Clark Street, Broadway and Diversey.

“The building’s prominent location gives us a great opportunity to serve a diverse range of travelers seeking a more authentic, neighborhood experience,” John W. Rutledge, founder, president and CEO of Oxford said in the release.

The 135-room hotel will aim for “bold design and quirky personality,” including showcasing local art in public spaces.

It will remain affiliated with Days Inn by Wyndham and be open during construction.

Built in the 1920s, the building’s most notable legacy might be its reputed place in rock ‘n’ roll lore. It was the home to former jazz musician Bix Beiderbecke in 1925 and later went on to be referred to as the “Rock and Roll Days Inn,” thanks to its popularity with rock star guests like Nirvana, the Goo Goo Dolls, Radiohead, Sheryl Crow and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
