Sighting: ‘Man of Steel’ star Henry Cavill spotted in Chicago

It turns out even Superman loves Sunday Funday.

“Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill had lunch with MMA fighter and actress Gina Carano Sunday at Jack’s On Halsted in the Lakeview East neighborhood and returned later on that day for a drink. Cavill and Carano had dinner at Sushi Samba and then hung out at Vertigo Sky Lounge in the Dana Hotel and Spa.

It’s unclear what exactly Cavill is doing back in Chicago. The “Man of Steel” sequel, known to fans as “Batman vs. Superman,” isn’t expected to shoot in the area until the fall, according to Illinois Film Office director Betsy Steinberg. The movie will return to the field just outside of Yorkville on Route 126 that was the sight of Clark Kent’s Smallville farm house in the first movie.

(Maybe Cavill is going to see Kevin Costner, who played his adopted father in “Man of Steel,” perform with his band, Kevin Costner & Modern West, Monday at the Arcada Theater in St. Charles?)

“Man of Steel” also filmed in downtown Chicago and the suburbs of Plano and Sugar Grove in 2011. The majority of the sequel is expected to film in Michigan. The movie will co-star Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and is scheduled to hit theaters May 6, 2016.
