On Saturday night at the College of DuPage’s Grand Opening MAC Madness Celebration Benefit, College President Dr. Robert L. Breuder announced that the McAninch’s Arts Center’s 800-seat Performance Hall will be renamed the Belushi Performance Hall in honor of alumni and comedy legends John and Jim Belushi.

The brothers attended the college in the early 1970s, and have credited much of their success to their time spent there. John graduated in 1970, becoming a mainstage cast member at The Second City only a year later after Joyce Sloane saw the edgy student at the College and hired him with no audition required.

Jim graduated in 1974, joined the Second City in 1977 and was on “SNL” by 1983. Also, in 1983, Jim created the John Belushi Scholarship Fund for College of DuPage theater and music students to honor his brother’s memory.

Jim Belushi was present at Saturday’s ceremony.
