Airlines and bereavement fares
When someone you love has passed away, you don't want to hassle with transportation. Some airlines offer "bereavement fares," a discounted ticket, often with fewer restrictions on changes and cancellations. With the recent announcement that American Airlines has dropped its bereavement fares, we thought we'd round up some U.S. carriers' published policies on fares in your time of need.

"United offers a 5% discount on fares (roundtrip or one-way) in the event of a death or serious illness (requiring hospitalization or hospice care) of an immediate family member," the airline's webpage says. Click here for more information.
