The holiday is ending, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still plan to have fun. Continue the summer kickoff this weekend at the Wine & Jazz Festival at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa.
The fifth annual festival offers visitors a day full of jazz, locally made wines and fresh fare, all within the grounds of a garden setting overlooking a scenic meadow.
Performing will be Grammy-nominated artists such as the Kenny Barron Trio, New York Voices and the Ravi Coltrane Quartet. Also taking the stage will be the Tony Miceli Quartet.
More than a dozen Pennsylvania wineries are participating, including Allegro, Chaddsford, Mount Nittany and Tamanend.
The plan: The festival takes place Saturday, beginning at noon, which offers visitors enough time to sample some wine and take in the scenery and then visit some of the shopping and dining options in the area.
Visitors can even purchase a specially prepared picnic basket online and have it ready for them when they arrive at the festival.
Wine-tasting classes and cooking demonstrations with chef Chris Siropaides from Georges’ restaurant will also be available, all included in the admission price.
