As the world waits 10 to 14 days for Heath Ledger's toxicology results, fans of the actor are still trying to make sense of his death and to get a picture of his last days.
Speculation has run rampant about Ledger's cause of death, whether it was his health, his state of mind, a drug cocktail or a combination of the three. The latest reports say that six bottles of prescription drugs were found in the apartment. This follows a report that a rolled up $20 bill was found near Ledger. Tests proved that there was no drug residue on the bill.
Various sources have said that Ledger was dealing with insomnia, hence the sleeping pills. Overdosing on sleeping pills, especially prescription ones, just doesn't add up though, considering what it would take for that to be effective. His family and various friends deny that suicide is even a possibility, and his enthusiasm for being a father and his active career would seem to support that. It's clear that the whys and hows will just have to wait until the medical examiner releases the report.
Celebrity gossip sites have turned their focus to the Olsen connection instead. At first, it was erroneously reported that the apartment in which Ledger died belonged to Mary-Kate Olsen. This information was later retracted. New reports, however, claim that masseuse that was let in by the housekeeper found his body, then used his cellphone to speed-dial Olsen, who was Ledger's friend.
After Olsen, who was in California at the time, called her private security people to investigate the situation, the masseuse called her again to report that Ledger was unconscious and couldn't be revived. Then she called 911 herself. Olsen's private security and the city's emergency responders arrived around the same time.
Reports continue to flip-flop between Ledger dating Mary-Kate Olsen to their being "just friends." Ledger was also allegedly seeing model Gemma Ward and Helena Christensen, a friend who was on the way to see him before learning of his death. Ex-girlfriends Naomi Watts and Michelle Williams, the mother of his 2-year-old child Matilda, are also under scrutiny as they mourn his death.
Meanwhile the status of Ledger's final two films are uncertain. Shooting on the actor's scenes as the Joker for "The Dark Knight" already wrapped, but now Warner Bros. must determine how the film must be marketed since it was initially focused on the Joker.
The studio is also responsible for Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," which Ledger was currently shooting. Production has temporarily shut down while execs/insurers determine whethert to replace Ledger in the role, shoot around his character or shut down the production completely.
