Christopher Meloni and James Franco will co-star in "Nights in Rodanthe" with Richard Gere and Diane Lane.
George Wolfe is directing the Warner Bros. production, which is based on the romantic novel by Nicolas Sparks.
The story, adapted by Ken Hixon and Ann Peacock, focuses on a middle-aged couple (Gere and Lane) who have a brief, yet passionate affair at an inn in North Carolina.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Meloni will play Lane's cuckolded husband, while Franco will play the estranged son of Gere's character.
An Emmy nominee last year for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," Meloni's film credits include "Wet Hot American Summer" and the upcoming "Brief Interviews With Hideous Men." He's also set to reprise his "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" role in that comedy's sequel.
Currently appearing in "Spider-Man 3" in his third turn as Harry Osbourn, Franco has completed work on Paul Haggis' "In the Valley of Elah" before moving on to the comedy "The Pineapple Express."
