Cash for criminals bill amended following public outcry
A Republican state lawmaker has made changes to a controversial bill that could have negatively affected children of disabled military veterans.

The so-called "cash for criminals" bill would provide financial aid for tuition, books and other educational expenses for felons behind bars. At the same time, the legislation would have reduced the amount of scholarship money available for children of disabled military veterans.

Several service members were upset by that possibility. State Representative Tom Dermody has now amended the bill so it no longer contains any military funding reductions.
