Painter still the starter for now

Curtis Painter should be getting another chance at live game action. Head Coach Jim Caldwell clarifying the Colts quarterback situation on Wednesday saying "At this point Kerry (Collins) has not cleared as of yet. Curtis (Painter) is our starter until our doctors tell us otherwise."

Collins did participate in practice on a limited basis for the first time in a week but he is still recovering from a concussion he suffered in the Colts week 3 loss to the Steelers. Caldwell wouldn't say what direction the team would go if both of his back up quarterbacks were healthy.

One thing is for sure, whoever is under center will need some protection. The Colts dealing with a depleted offensive line after injuries continue to pile up. On Wednesday the Horseshoes placed rookie offensive tackle Ben Ijalana on injured reserve, he had been filling in for starting left tackle Anthony Castonzo who left Monday's loss to Tampa Bay with an ankle injury. Not to mention starting offensive guard Ryan Diem has missed the past two games with the same injury.

The Horseshoes filled in the gaps, signing offensive tackles Michael Toudouze and Quinn Ojinnaka to the active roster. Toudouze is a former draft pick of the Colts and should be able to make a quick transition to a starting spot on the o-line.

"You are going to have some injuries from time to time. Often times there is going to be a portion of your roster that is going to be in flux. We made a couple signings that we think will help us out. (Michael) Toudouze we brought back. Mike knows the system and will be able to adjust there. The other guys we’ll have to get up to speed quickly and get them ready to go," said Caldwell.

“It’s all about how fast I can learn it. I was in there for the walkthrough. It’s similar to what we did in New England so I think I can pick it up,” said Ojinnaka.

The Colts hoping the new pieces can help them get back to the win column against Kansas City on Sunday. The Horseshoes sitting at 0 and 4 on the season for the first time since 1998.
