Several Indiana Democratic legislators have walked out of a budget hearing after complaining that Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels wants credit for giving schools a funding increase even though it largely comes from federal stimulus money.

Terry Goodin of Austin said it was a "sham" and a "gimmick" to say schools get 2 percent more funding in each of the next two years because the majority of the increase comes from stimulus cash.
But state budget director Chris Ruhl says Daniels and his administration have made no secret about the sources for the school funding increase.
Republicans on the special bipartisan budget committee said they were disappointed that some Democrats chose to leave and continued the hearing without them.
