Family to hold memorial ride for slain 3-year-old

The motorcycle event will raise money for Prevent Child Abuse Indiana.

As her mother faces neglect charges in her daughter’s death, the rest of a little girl's family is planning a fundraiser to prevent child abuse.

The first Carmen Ellis Memorial Ride will take place Oct. 13. Carmen Ellis died after police said her mother’s boyfriend severely beat the child.

The motorcycle event will raise money for Prevent Child Abuse Indiana.

The cost is $25 per bike and $5 for each additional passenger.

Rregistration starts at 9 a.m. at the Harley Davidson on 96th Street.

The ride starts at 10:30 a.m. and ends at the Hog House Bar and Grill in Ingalls, Ind.

Samantha Ellis faces one count of felony neglect. Her boyfriend, Jose Cruz, faces murder charges.
