M.J. Rose writes cool, lush modern supernaturally tinged romances, including the Reincarnationist series. M.J. Rose books are the epitome of summertime leisure reading, at the smarter beaches. Her latest novel, Seduction, has roots in real life, and stars a novelist: Victor Hugo, who believed that we could communicate with spirits.
Randy Susan Meyers has written two novels, including the new The Comfort of Lies, plus the non-fiction work Couples With Children. Joshua Henkin writes novels and short stories. Like Randy Susan Meyers, he’s from Brooklyn and teaches writing when not actually writing. Henkin’s new novel is World Without You, about a family unraveling in their summer home in the Berkshires.
R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison is renowned for its overstuffed calendar of booksignings and author appearances. On May 23 at 7 p.m., the store offers a threefer: authors who’ve visited the store individually joining up for a discussion of “their latest works, creative writing, and what it’s like to be a writer today.” Furthering that last-named theme, Rose and Meyers are holding a “What to Do Before Your Book Launch” workshop, based on their book of the same name, at 2:30 p.m. on the same day. The $40 cost includes the workshop and a copy of the book (which retails for $14.99). The 7 p.m. panel discussion is free.
This is a special sort of R.J. Julia event, made all the more special by the familiarity some of these authors have with the shop. These are also the sort of authors who can speak with authority about the various newer platforms—Kindle, Audible Audiobooks, etc.—through which books are marketed these days.
