This Saturday marks the annual Connecticut Open House Day, where lots and lots of local museums, cultural attractions, open spaces and more open their doors for us Nutmeggers to enjoy. The Adam Stanton House (63 E. Main St., Clinton, 860-664-0018) offers tours of the home, built in 1789, and is open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Allis-Bushnell House (853 Boston Post Rd., Madison, 203-245-4567) will have costumed guides giving tours of "Five Days in Madison." Open free from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Bishop's Orchards Farm Market & Winery (1355 Boston Post Rd., Guilford, 203-453-2338) will give out free samples from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Connecticut River Expeditions (departs from Eagle Landing State Park, 1 Marine Park, Rte. 82, Haddam, 860-662-0577) offers reduced admission ($5) for the hour-long Gillette Castle Viewing Cruise, which departs at 10 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.
The Eli Whitney Museum (915 Whitney Ave., Hamden, 203-777-1833) holds walk-in projects "Micro Titanics" and "Micro Monitors" for kids ages 5 to 12 years old, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Elm City Artists Gallery (55 Whitney Ave., New Haven, 203-922-2359) opens its doors for demonstrations, discounts on original art works, raffles, and a chance to meet some of the artists. Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Goodspeed Opera House (6 Main St., East Haddam, 860-873-8668) is holding free tours of the historic Victorian theater, built in 1876, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Gouveia Vineyards (1339 Whirlwind Hill Rd., Wallingford, 203-265-5526) holds face painting for kids, tractor rides for families and yummy treats from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Hourly raffles from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Guilford Art Center (411 Church St., Guilford, 203-453-5947) lets you purchase items from the shop at 10 percent off, 15 percent for members, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Henry Whitfield State Museum (248 Old Whitfield St., Guilford, 203-453-2457) hosts "Puritans at Play!," an opportunity to play historical games and try toys of yesteryear. This year's featured toy is the bubble wand. Free admission all day.
The Hyland House Museum (84 Boston St., Guilford, 203-453-9477) is open for free from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and offers a 25 percent discount on a set of 10 original Hyland House note cards.
Lake Compounce Family Theme Park (271 Enterprise Rd., Bristol, 860-583-3300), open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., offers admission for $10 (plus tax) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Maritime Aquarium (10 N. Water St., Norwalk, 203-852-0700) offers admission at a discount to CT residents with proof of residency. An "Adventure Pass" is available, which is good for general admission and one IMAX movie (there are four movie choices for that day). 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center (110 Pequot Trail, Mashantucket, 800-411-9671) offers half off museum admission with proof of CT residency from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Mattatuck Museum (144 W. Main St., Waterbury, 203-753-0381) is open for free all day. From 10 a.m. to noon, those of all ages can draw the scenes of the Green, with help from a roaming artist. Stools and supplies provided. From 1 to 3 p.m., kids create their own works of art in the Museum Courtyard.
Mystic Aquarium (55 Coogan Blvd., Mystic, 860-572-5955) offers special discounted admission to in-state residents (bring proof) with the mention of CT Open House Day. Adults save $6, seniors save $5 and kids save $4. It's also the aquarium's World Oceans Day Celebration, where you can learn how to protect the environment and the role the oceans serve for our planet.
The Naugatuck Historical Society (195 Water St., Naugatuck, 203-729-9039) is open free of charge for the entire day. Kids can enjoy a special Colette's Crafts program, or take the whole family on a walking tour of historic Naugatuck (1 p.m., weather permitting). Experience the benefits of a Naugatuck Historical Society membership, and you'll receive 10 percent off all store purchases, discount registration for upcoming programs or workshops, and sign the kids up for summer programs in advance.
New England Alpacas (14 Bethke Rd., Killingworth, 860-663-3482) is open for free from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
