As we enter the e-reader era, readings by notable authors and book-signing events are really about community-building, according to Barnes and Noble store manager George Abysalh. “It’s more about getting the community together,” he said, “getting them to meet local authors and established authors, especially people who haven't been to the store before.” In the past year, the ever-popular West Hartford/Blue Back Square location has featured children’s author Jane Yolen, cake wreckers Jen and John Yates and Massachusetts senator Scott Brown. “It’s a treat for people to meet a local author and to be together with folks who appreciate that,” Jenna LaRiviere, community relations manager, said. “A lot of customers even come in with their Nooks and have the author sign the cover.”
