Two Charged With Murder, Home Invasion
STONINGTON - Local and state police have arrested two men they believe were involved in the killing of 29-year-old Kyle Sheets of Mystic Friday night. Sheets was found wounded on a boat docked at the Seaport Marine in the Mystic section of Stonington. He was pronounced dead at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
Mystic, was charged Saturday with home invasion, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, felony murder, and murder. Vincent Green, 17, of 52 Fair Acres, Old Mystic, was charged with home invasion, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and felony murder. Each man is being held on $1 million bail and are scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in New London Monday.
Police said that they received a 911 call about 9:21 p.m. Friday, reporting that a man had been shot. The call came from a boat out of Essex named The Crucible, according to police. The New London Day reported that Sheets lived on the boat with his father, Russell Sheets. Police would not confirm that Sheets lived on the boat, but listed his address as 1 Washington St., the same as the marina.
The office of the chief medical examiner performed an autopsy on Sheets Sunday afternoon and ruled his death a homicide by "multiple sharp force injuries."
"It wasn't a shooting," Stonington Lt. Keith Beebe said Sunday afternoon. "No shots were fired."
Beebe did not say where police found Allen and Green, or what led them to believe they were involved. He said police could not release additional information because they were still investigating, and would not say whether more arrests are expected.
"We're still tying up some loose ends," Beebe said.
Stonington, Groton and state police are still investigating the incident
