MONTVILLE, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says a Montville couple has been fined $100,000 after failing to remove an illegal boat ramp they built on the Thames River and restore wetlands they destroyed.

Blumenthal said Tuesday the fine against Michael and Terry Lynn Liebig, one of the largest imposed under the state's tidal wetlands law, was levied earlier this month by a Hartford Superior Court judge.

A message was left for the Liebigs on Tuesday.

Blumenthal sued the couple on behalf of state environmental officials, alleging they did not comply with a 2006 agreement to remove the boat ramp and restore about 4,500 square feet of wetlands destroyed by their building of the ramp and a beach. He says they never sought permits for the work.
