Woman Gets DWI Thanks To Passenger's Arachnophobia
Erratic driving was not what led Southold Town police to issue a DWI to one Bayside woman, it turned out her passenger's fear of spiders was her downfall.

Angela Kontogiannis, 32, was pulled over around 2:40 a.m. Monday after officers received reports of a screaming woman inside of a car parked on the side of Route 25 in Mattituck. Upon further investigation, the hysterical female passenger was simply terrified of spiders and, according to police, thought there was one on her lap.

However, while speaking with the two women, police determined that Kontogiannis had been drinking and arrested her on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated.

Police were reportedly unable to determine whether or not there was ever a spider in the passenger seat.
