SCARSDALE, N.Y. (WPIX)
An off-duty Westchester County cop was charged Sunday with driving drunk after reportedly blowing a red light and hitting into a Scarsdale police cruiser.
The crash occurred at 1:24 a.m. at the intersection of East Parkway and Popham Road. Officer Joseph Kraus was reportedly driving a Chevy pickup truck when he slammed into the police cruiser being driven by Officer Jessica Knatz
Kraus was reportedly on the scene when police officers arrived but refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Emergency officials cut Officer Knatz out of her vehicle. She was rushed to the hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries to her back and face. She remains in the hospital.
Kraus is a 4-and-a-half year veteran of the county police department, and assigned to the department's crash reduction unit - which is reportedly a program designed to reduce the number of crashes at known trouble spots along Westchester County parkways.
Kraus is suspended with pay pending an investigation into the incident.
