Suozzi Concedes Race to Mangano
Tom Suozzi (SWAH'-zee), once seen as a rising star in New York's Democratic Party, has conceded defeat in his bid for a third term as Nassau County executive.

County legislator Edward Mangano takes office in January. He had been given little chance against the popular incumbent.

Suozzi's announcement Tuesday came four weeks after Election Day. It returns control of the suburban New York county to the

Republicans.

After a monthlong recount, Mangano led Suozzi by 377 votes.

The GOP had held power for decades on Long Island before Suozzi pulled off a stunning victory in 2002.

He has said his supporters may have been overconfident and complacent about this year's election.
