Brooklyn Toddler Beaten To Death By Mom's Boyfriend
A teenager is under arrest in connection to the beating death of a Brooklyn toddler, who he was babysitting Saturday while the child's mother was at work.

Tyree Wright, 19, was arrested Sunday and has so far been charged with first-degree assault and act in a manner injurous to a child. He is expected to be arraigned on Monday at Brooklyn Criminal Court.

Cops say Wright was alone babysitting his girlfriend Natalie Palmer's 23-month-old boy Jacqil Degraffenreid in the ground floor Shepherd Avenue apartment they shared in Cypress Hills.

When the 21-year-old mother returned home from her catering job early Saturday morning, she discovered Jacqil was not breathing.

Emergency services arrived at the apartment just after 4:30 a.m. and transported the toddler, who had visible bruises all over his body, to Kings County Hospital. Jacqil was pronounced dead on arrival.

PIX11 News learned that Wright initially claimed a large fish bowl had fallen on the toddler, causing his untimely death. After further questioning, he confessed to beating the child.

An autopsy performed by the Medical Examiner's Officer concluded that Jacqil was beaten to death and died from blunt impact injuries. The medical examiner also discovered the youngster had sustained lacerations to his liver and pancreas.

The Administration for Child Services stated that they did not have any complaints against Palmer or the Shepherd Avenue household.

Wright, however, has a rap sheet that includes five prior arrests for crimes including robbery and assault.

A wake for Jacqil will be held Monday night in Brooklyn.
