A man was shot and killed inside a Long Island home Monday night and Suffolk County police are investigating whether he knew the homeowner.

Police arrived at 813 6th Street in West Babylon at about 7:30 p.m.on a report that a man was shot. They discovered a man's body on the kitchen floor with at least one gun shot to his upper body.

Reports say the man was 51-years-old and was the ex-husband or -boyfriend of the homeowner. He broke into the home for an unknown reason.

One of the residents, possibly the homeowner's roommate, mistook the victim for a burglar and shot him.

PIX News captured a man wearing a tan jacket pulling into the driveway of the West Babylon home. When asked about the shooting, the man told PIX News, "Self-defense is all I have to say."

Reports also say that police recovered a vehicle that belonged to the victim about one block away from the home.

At least 15 guns, including high-caliber rifles, were recovered from the West Babylon home.

The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.

One man was taken into questioning. No names have been released.

Detectives from Suffolk County Police's Homicide Squad are continuing their investigation.
