HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (WPIX) -- Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor high gas prices could stop a U.S. Postal Service supervisor from siphoning gas out of a number of postal trucks and into take-home containers, according to the Nassau County officials.

43-year-old Michael Catania has been arrested and charged with petit larceny for stealing nearly $1,000 in gas for his own personal vehicle.

District Attorney Kathleen Rice and the Office of the Inspector General for the United States Postal Service say Catania , who worked at the USPS Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Hicksville, was caught on surveillance video siphoning the diesel fuel. Officials say Catania committed the thefts on at least ten different occasions.

For the record, authorities say the average price for a gallon of gas during the thefts was more than four dollars a gallon.

Catania is expected to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
