Edvard Munch's 'The Scream' Auctions For Record $119.9 Million
Edvard Munch's "The Scream", one of the most iconic images in art history, has also become the most expensive piece of artwork ever sold at auction, selling for $119.9 million at Sotheby's Wednesday.

The 1985 pastel is a modern symbol of human anxiety. The price includes the buyer's premium. The buyer's name was not disclosed.

The painting of a man holding his head and screaming under a red sky is one of four versions. The auctioned piece is the last one left in private hands.

The previous record for a work sold at auction was for Picasso's "Nude, Green Leaves and Bust." It sold for $106.5 million at Christie's in 2010.
