COBBLE HILL, N.Y. (WPIX)—A Brooklyn school will implement the daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance after a student's parents complained to school officials that their 8-year-old daughter had no idea what the patriotic oath was.
The school in question, PS 29 in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn, is one of many schools in the New York City area that hasn't put the pledge into effect as regular morning activities.
"I was shocked that she didn't know the pledge. I thought she'd been doing it in school," Brooklyn dad Joe Fischer told the News, when he discovered his daughter Brianna was clueless about the oath.
The child was apparently watching a TV show when she saw a class recite the pledge and asked her parents about it.
Fischer brought his complaint to school administrators six weeks ago. The family's concern proved to be a strong one, as the school's principal agreed to start implementing the pledge over the school's sounds system daily.
